Joanna Godden edition by Sheila KayeSmith Literature Fiction eBooks
Set in the late 1800's, Joanna Godden inherits her father's farm and runs it on her own terms. She has no husband (though she wants one) and she takes no one's advice besides her own. From the farm to her carriage and her manner of dress, she does everything in a big way. Joanna tries various farming experiments and spends more money when others think she should spend less. And yet she makes her own farm a success and plots to buy another. Through out the story she lives and loves and make mistakes, and I could not help but love her. She is a brilliant character. While not completely surprised by the ending, I do wish someone had written a sequel.
